Three weeks into fall and I already can't help but to dread the ever approaching winter weather. The worse thing about winter? Electrically-charged hair!!! There is nothing quite like getting suffocated by your own locks! The combination of cold air + low humidity brings on the phenomenon of fly-away hair. So what can we do about it?
First, the more porous and damaged your hair is the drier it will be + the more likely that static charge will build up. Pay attention to what's REALLY making up your hair dyes + lighteners. Ammonia, the active ingredient in 99% of professional hair color lines, will have your hair running away from itself in no time.
Second, be sure to use a good, hydrating conditioner every time you shampoo to keep hair moisturized + lessen the likelihood of charge building up in the first place. Check the ingredients for silicones + other plastics that most conditioners contain. These will make your hair silky and smooth but over time the buildup of these plastics will cause lifeless, dull strands.
And last, try shea butter! Made from the Vitellaria paradoxa tree native to West Africa, Shea butter is still extracted manually by a painstakingly long process that involves the collection, cleaning, segregation, drying, + pounding of the dried nuts into a paste. When Shea butter is applied to the hair, it prevents it from drying out + becoming brittle. It seals in the moisture by coating each strand of hair in a thin, non-greasy layer. Try it as a conditioning treatment or try it in your daily routine.
Did you know Oway hair color is packed with natural ingredients farmed + hand-picked without the use of machines, pesticides or chemicals? These plants are used to protect your hair while coloring + lightening! While shea butter may not be on the list of this ammonia-free line, check out what is!!
